ReplyDeleteRainy season is one of the most beautiful season. It is very joyful. I use to go to my field in the season. I play there and enjoy with my friends.
DeleteWhen I think about the rainy season, I remember thunder and lightning striking palm trees in my village. All the streams that bring water from the mountains would overflow making a loud noise. The jackals used to come down from the hills and steal our hens. Most of the banana plantations will be wrecked and mangoes and jack fruits will litter the ground beneath their trees. Me and my siblings used to play in the rain, and afterwards we used to have some hot black tea and banana chips.
DeleteThe October-November rains are so sweet because it comes after a long duration....the smell of fresh soil wet with rain is really enjoyable and simulating.
DeleteMy memory of getting wet in the rain fills me with immense pleasure and delight.I grew up in a colony where there were many children of my age.So whenever there was heavy rain,we ventured out, started playing a game called Land and Water in the puddles of rain water. We also made huge paper boats with one whole news paper and tried floating those in the puddles. It was also fun getting drenched in the rain specially if it happened to be a hot summer day.
DeletePitter patter rain drops, smell of wet soil, getting cough and cold, arrival of sugarcane closer to Shankranthi, smell of fire nearing Diwali.
ReplyDeleteMy experiences of childhood related to my joys of the rainy season would help me to interconnect with similarity between my experiences of my childhood with my students experiences. We used to dance in rain and collecting hailstones in storm and not at all worrying of falling sick, though elders used to keep us warning of flu and cold as they were common during the season.
ReplyDeleteHeavy rains destroy crops and cause floods. Children enjoy this season to the utmost, they take shower, float paper boats and dive in the water of rain. All water bodies often get full of water, the rivers that dry get plenty of water. All plants and trees become green and greenery makes the environment more beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAs it rains, dry barren ponds and puddles are infused with life again. Rivers, yet again, flow at their full capacity and birds chirp all day long. Rains have, since times immemorial, been the favourite season of the land. It fuels flora and fauna enough to bear the brunt of dry barren summers and harsh freezing winters. Flowers bloom in all their full grandeur and crop roots soak up water during this time of the year. It comes after the end of the scorching summer season. It’s the time when most of the rainfall occurs; the sky is generally cloudy throughout the season. The rivers and ponds that have lost water through evaporation due to the heat are now replenished.
ReplyDeleteThe rain showers bring much relief to men and animals. The rain cools the air and the temperature drops making the weather extremely pleasant. There is more greenery around us during this season as flora and fauna thrive. This weather is great for agriculture as it augments the traditional and conventional irrigation techniques. Optimal rainfall is crucial for crop cultivation.
My experiences of childhood related to my joys of the winter season would help me to interconnect with similarity between my experiences of my childhood with my students experiences. We used to collect hailstones and snow in wintry season.

ReplyDeleteMonsoon or rainy season was a joyous one. though we used to get drenched we still loved it. rains occurred as soon as we got ready to go to school or when the school left. rain too is naughty as it wants to drench the children. the first rain after hot summers is really welcoming. I really love the smell created by raindrops falling on earth. After growing up every rainy day I prefer enjoying the rain with a cup of hot tea and fried snacks. Rain Activity:
ReplyDeleteThe smell of first rain drops absorbed by the dry soil! Sometimes a few hail stones falling on the roof with ‘thud’ thud’ sound! The sound of cuckoo informing us it will rain today! The tasty crispy hot snacks Amma made for us in the rainy evenings! Appa handing over the umbrella to us when we were out for the school! Homemade Plastic bottle Rain gauge with the help of Appa and measuring the rain fall ! (Though not accurate and comparing it with newspaper weather report the next day) ! After a few days of rain, the first rose bud in our pot! The advertisement of Umbrella broadcasted in Radio (in our childhood –no Television) The hot Kashaya Amma prepared with milk, turmeric powder, Thulasi, ginger, pepper, jaggery in the morning instead of plain milk ! The paper boats floating in the drain! A lovely experience! All green memories!
I still remember my Pre Primary teacher starting the rainy day with the nursery rhymes " I hear thunder..." clapping and singing it with my friends. The fragrance oozing out from the first drop of the water drops falling on the dry soil, the croaking of the frogs, the earthworm and snails enjoying in the open ground . My best memory still which continues is jumping in the puddle and splashing of water all over, making a paper boat and putting it in water. It is one of my favourite season which brings joy and happiness when I think about it.
ReplyDeleteMy memories of rain is connected with my intimate friend, our walk to school through the rain, chatting, sharing our dreams, imaginations while watching the rain falling through the canopy along the road side, splashing water in the puddles, getting wet throughout, sitting in the wet clothes through the day, again back to home through another spell of rain, having hot tea at home with snacks still with the eyes plugged on the rain outside. Then the special lillies which come out of the soil only during rains, the smell of jasmine which bloom after the first rain. The smell of wet soil, cry of frogs at night etc
ReplyDeleteRainy season is the lovely season for all of us. One of the first memories I have of ‘fun in the rain’ is of making paper boats and releasing them in nearby gutters, and seeing how many reach the far end! Of course, most boats used to sink soon; and hence used to begin the competition of seeing ‘whose’ boats among the group of budding ship builders floated the most. I used to jump into puddles and splash water. What can beat the ’kick’ I felt when I played while getting soaked from head to toe, wiping my face again and again to see what’s going on around? Wow! coolness, freshness, adventure – thy name is ‘getting drenched’! It brings new hopes and life to the living things.
ReplyDelete1. Floating paper boats in rain water streams
ReplyDelete2. Playing with hailstones
3. Splashing muddy puddles
4. Standing under water oozing out of pipes
5. Feeling the rain droplets
6. Playing rain songs on the loop
My experience of a rainy day reminds me of only one particular day where i was playing with my siblings and then we were asked to come inside as it was raining . All my sisters went in and i felt a particular ice sensation on my feet. When i looked down i saw a rope like white thing moving on my feet. I was too small to realise actually what it was, but i kept still. i did not tell anybody but when i was able to realise and understand things, i remember it was a snake which crossed my feet.
ReplyDeleteThe beginning of the rainy season brought happiness at all the times in my childhood. We were eagerly waiting for it to get relief from the sun of the summer. It was very joyful to be in the open when it was rainnig, It was the time when farmers started their preparations for Kharif corps which brought greenary all around in later days. But sometimes the food caused by the heary rains used to make the lives of many of the people very difficult.
ReplyDeleteI like to get wet in rain and the smell of wet soil attracts me. Making paper boats and try to move them in flowing rainy water. Earlier my school got closed due to heavy rains as a big runnel passes near our school and that day it was declared as RAINY DAY. We were very happy and enjoyed the rainy day alot.

It was around the end of June. Me and my brother had recently returned home from school hostel for summer holidays. We lived in a mud house back then. My mother had started to prepare "kholay" (khichiddi) in a huge pot on the earthen stove. The base of the pot was always smudged with black colossal because of the smoke from the wood used in cooking. By the time me and my brother had unpacked and bathed, the dish was half prepared.
My mother had gone down to the backyard where she grew her own vegetables to pick up some fresh chilli and some spinach. Me and my brother sat in front of the fire to warm ourselves as the weather was chilly and we could see fog out of our mouth everytime we talked or even breathed. However, the mist started coming in from the kitchen window and it turned out windy all of a sudden. The rooves started clattering and the slow drizzles suddenly turned into thick water droplets.
It started pouring so I looked for an umbrella and ran towards the backyard to pick up my mother because she had gone without an umbrella, as my brother stayed back to guard the kholay on the stove. I saw my mother waddling with hands full of vegetables and she had also picked two eggs from the coop, so she was trying to be extra careful while walking on the slippery mud stairs.
The backyard smelled different. The soil felt fresh to my nose. The house itself turned extra cold as it was a mud house. The umbrella wasn't sufficient to cover the both of us and the Vegetables completely so my mother's left shoulder and mine, right, drenched much.
We reached the door of the kitchen from where we could see my brother panicking over the boiling dish pouring over the stove. My mother helped me change and she tucked me and my brother in the warmest blanket available at home. She rushed to the kitchen. I exchanged views between my mother chopping spinach, radish, chillies and the raindrop falling on the window sill just next to my bed.
She brought us warm kholay in bed with unintentionally scrambled eggs. We enjoyed the rain as we slurped warm kholay in our beds. However, the coop was dripping and the hens all shifted to one corner to avoid the water. The rain did not stop for three days and because there weren't pakka roads built around that time, floods weren't rare to see.

ReplyDeleteThe first shower of rains was always a welcome one especially since the long scorching summer heat used to cause prickly heat on my body. Elders used to say that the first rain drops would dry the prickly heat. So we children rushed out of our houses to experience the rain on our body. I have lived my whole life in a city. Hence I was always unlucky to never have experienced the pleasure of walking in the green fields as depicted in movies. It was always thrilling to see the greenery and imagine that we are amongst it. Yet the small pleasures of digging a small pool and collecting the rain water is still treasured. We used to tear pages of our old books, shape them into paper boats and seek pleasure in seeing them sail. Of course in the background we could hear our parents scream as we dirtied our clothes and our hands. Rain always brought with it skin infections. Flooding caused the schools and offices to remain shut. An unexpected holiday from the otherwise dull, boring classes with our strict teachers. Hahaha. Thanks for reminding me of those days
ReplyDeleteI still remember after hot summer when the land is dry and the first shower of rain fall brings the beautiful smell of mud which really pleases me. Sailing paper boats made from paper torn out of school notebooks, during Recess. Having hot khichidi after returning from school. If it rained in the evening then a special treat of hot coffee and pakoras awaited us. Garden and patio furniture had to be stored in the garden shed/ garage every-time it rained, which was fun at that age. Rains remind me of warm roasted Bengal grams, papads and puffed rice. The memory of the rhyme ' Pitter patter raindrops' always comes back with the smell of wet mud after the first rains.

Childhood memories...... many imprinted but one vivid one would love to share..... as a student, dressed in the best uniform, left for school on foot, along with my siblings. Midway ,it started drizzling, worried about my shining shoes and neat uniform, i started expressing anger and unhappiness.... but as the drizzle changed to rain, i started enjoying.... we all started singing rain songs, laughed and played with the clogged dirty water.... prayed to god to continue the rain.....which actually happened and to our amazement, as we reached school, it was declared as a rainy day and the school was closed on account of that. My expression was totally changed from the sad one to a happy one..... least thinking about the books and copies getting wet, state of the uniform ..... we all started for home .... walking and singing rain based songs. And thanking god for making the surrounding so clean by washing all the tall trees in such a large scale.
