Once upon a time, there lived a shepherd boy who was bored watching his flock of sheep on the hill. To amuse himself, he shouted, “Wolf! Wolf! The sheep are being chased by the wolf!” The villagers came running to help the boy and save the sheep. They found nothing and the boy just laughed looking at their angry faces.

“Don’t cry ‘wolf’ when there’s no wolf boy!”, they said angrily and left. The boy just laughed at them.

After a while, he got bored and cried ‘wolf!’ again, fooling the villagers a second time. The angry villagers warned the boy a second time and left. The boy continued watching the flock. After a while, he saw a real wolf and cried loudly, “Wolf! Please help! The wolf is chasing the sheep. Help!”

But this time, no one turned up to help. By evening, when the boy didn’t return home, the villagers wondered what happened to him and went up the hill. The boy sat on the hill weeping. “Why didn’t you come when I called out that there was a wolf?” he asked angrily. “The flock is scattered now”, he said.

An old villager approached him and said, “People won’t believe liars even when they tell the truth. We’ll look for your sheep tomorrow morning. Let’s go home now
    2. In ancient Greek, there was a king named Midas. He had a lot of gold and everything he needed. He also had a beautiful daughter. Midas loved his gold very much, but he loved his daughter more than his riches.

One day, a satyr named Silenus got drunk and passed out in Midas’ rose garden. Believing that Satyrs always bring good luck, Midas lets Silenus rest in his palace until he is sober, against the wishes of his wife and daughter. Silenus is a friend of Dionysus, the god of wine and celebration. Upon learning Midas’ kindness towards his friend, Dionysus decides to reward the keg.

When asked to wish for something, Midas says “I wish everything I touch turns to gold”. Although Dionysus knew it was not a great idea, he granted Midas his wish.

Happy that his wish was granted, Midas went around touching random things in the garden and his palace and turned them all into gold. He touched an apple, and it turned into a shiny gold apple. His subjects were astonished but happy to see so much gold in the palace.

In his happiness, Midas went and hugged his daughter, and before he realized, he turned her into a lifeless, golden statue! Aghast, Midas ran back to the garden and called for Dionysus. He begged the god to take away his power and save his daughter. Dionysus gives Midas a solution to change everything back to how it was before the wish. Midas learned his lesson and lived the rest of his life contended with what he had.

  79. My Childhood period was worse. There nothing pleasant had happened in my life. We belongs to BPL family. Even we don't have had proper cloths till I was 8. I remember those days when I went to school with just cardboard(local made with local ink) in my bag( made by parents out of the rucksag).Almost all the teacher at that time were brutal. Still I was fisrt in the class and on the result decleration day the teacher praised me , that might be my plaesant day. On the other side my grandfather used to chase me just to puton my cloth(local made firan) and i run away. That bit of time with grand pa was really my quality time. And most of School time when some teacher just punish us for bit mistakes was I think, my unpleasant time.
A rhyme at that time I learnt was urdu prayer indeed , we enjoyed.
" Lab pey aati hy dua ban k tamanna meri.
Zindagi shamma ki soorat ho khudaya meri...."

  80. Childhood was definitely fun. Staying in small towns i feel besides learning from school, learning happened by staying more amidst nature. With no televisions at home we had long days after school too to spend with friends and play and learn. All rhymes were favourite and enjoyed each one.

  102. Childhood is the most memorable and cherishable phase of my life.
It is as if I have lived in the Golden Era.
A life of no worries, no responsibilities and full of fun and finding joy in the little things.
We lived in a government colony building. In those days, hardly any house had TV. We got our first TV and we were highly excited. Every Sunday, Doordarshan showed a movie. All the building folks, especially aunties and children would come to our house and watch the movie. And mummy would make snacks for all of us. We all families being together as one big family is my MOST PLEASANT MEMORY which reminds me of the Taarak Mehta ka Oolta Chasmah family. I feel that the culture of being together is now lost somewhere. And I really miss those days.

My most UNPLEASANT MEMORY is losing my father when death parted him from us in my childhood. It remains indelible till now.

2 rhymes that I learnt in my early years are:-

    1) If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands.
If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands.
If you're happy and you know it,
And you really want to show it,
If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands.

Then you can go on with :-
If you're happy and you know it, snap your fingers
If you're happy and you know it, nod your head...
If you're happy and you know it, stamp your feet...
If you're happy and you know it, say hello.

    2) Jack and Jill went up the hill
To fetch a pail of water
Jack fell down and broke his crown
    And Jill came tumbling after.

As I write this, I am reminded of the song
Bachpan Ke Din Bhi Kya Din they, Udte Phirte Titli Ban Ke, Bachpan ……….

  141. I can recall the best times of my life are Childhood. The Childhood memories build up my future and way of thinking. People with good childhood memories are the happy persons. On the other side some bad childhood memories also affect the future of an individual.
For instance, I like as child on seeing swings; the other may get excited like a child when I see ice cream. All this happens so because I have my childhood memories reminding me of the times associated with the things I get excited about. Therefore, childhood memories play a great role in my life. I remember clearly the aroma of my grandmother’s pickles. I used to help her whenever she made pickles. We used to watch her do the magic of combining the oils and spices to make delicious pickles. Even today, I can sometimes smell her pickles whenever I look back at this memory. The Bad Memory was related to my Math exam which used to create fear and tension in my life.

  155. Good memory- I grew up in cantonments. So, there was no issue of safety. I used to venture out with the neighbourhood kids in any direction and we used to play for hours in some old building, or park, or an old swimming pool near the house.
When I was in third class, there was a description in the Social Science book that the red soil of Karnataka gives yellow gold. We were in Bangalore those days. There was a patch of red soil nearby. We all kids had started digging that ground to find gold. When parents came to know, we got a nice scolding as there were no washing machines those days.
Bad memory- Once, I laughed at one of my classmates over something. My teacher made me stand on the bench and asked the whole class to laugh at me. Since I was a friendly person, whole class was my friend. So, nobody laughed initially. But, when the teacher scolded everyone, all started laughing at me. I felt that if the teacher would have explained to me where I was wrong, it would have had a better impact on me.

    1. A rhyme that I remember-

    Mary had a little lamb,
Its fleece was white as snow.
    And everywhere that Mary went,
The lamb was sure to go.

(I did not know then what fleece meant. )

    2. Another one-

Baby blew a bubble, softly let it fall.
Like a little fairy, in a silver ball.

3.And I can go on and on-

There's a lovely tree, a lovely, lovely tree,
    A beautiful lovely tree.
The tree was in the park,
And the green grass grows around,
    Around, around, around,

Chilhood is a golden period in everyone's life. Every one have some special memories of their childhood.

One of my good memory- When I got a Ludo, snakes and laddes as a prize from my parents when I stood first in my class.

Bad memory- When I became nervous in morning Assembly when I was reciting a sanskrit shalok.

A rhyme that I still remember-
Jack and Jill went up the hill
To fetch a pail of water.
Jack fell down and broke his crown,
    And Jill came tumbling after.
Then up got Jack and said to Jill,
As in his arms he took her,
“Brush off that dirt for you’re not hurt,
Let’s fetch that pail of water.”
So Jack and Jill went up the hill
To fetch the pail of water,
And took it home to Mother dear,
Who thanked her son and daughter.

    My Favourite story is-

But the unpleasant thing is that I missed the love and affection of my dear father whom I miss even now. Twinkle twinkle little star, Baa baa black sheep, are the poems learnt in early years.
