Early literacy is not just an academic skill but a multifaceted ability with psychological, social and linguistic components. Although most early learners won't learn reading fluency until elementary school, children naturally pick up early literacy skills from a very early age.
ReplyDeletePre-school 1-Introduce rhymes with rhythm and repetition like Ten Little Fingers, Ten Little Toes.....
Pre -school 2-child can pick up any book of his/her choice from the library corner of the class. Encourage the child to turn the pages and talk about what is seen in the book. Using finger to guide the child's eyes from left to right across the page as you read, point out certain words.
For Pre School 1 - Indoor Activities are to be provided as they are too small. But, it's not feasible to make them sit infront of TV, Mobile and Desk Top and Computers for a longer period which will make them lazy in the later life. Rather than that colourful, different sized, shaped toys to play and learn will be effective in learning things with illustrations.
ReplyDeleteFor Pre School 2 - Since they are little grown up they can be brought to outside to observe things of different nature to learn. This is the age for them to listen too, as they leave their obstinacy little bit, stories of moral values can be told more to learn practical things through examples.

This literacy activity will allow children to incorporate alphabet knowledge with an active/mobile approach. Needed materials: classroom objects, letter cards A-Z. Children will search the room for objects beginning with the same letter as the given alphabet card. This will work on and develop phonological awareness.
